Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh last night resulted in landslides and four people were reported dead. In addition, officials have informed that many houses have been damaged and more than 200 roads have been closed due to heavy rain in the state.

Heavy rains will occur in four out of the 12 districts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in some places in the next 24 hours. On August 24, the department has given forecast of heavy rainfall and issued orange alert for some parts. Around 80 people have died in state this month in rain-related incidents. A total of 227 people have died and 38 people are missing since the onset of monsoon in the state on June 24.

The death toll in Shimla district has risen to 26 due to heavy rains in the last 10 days. Out of these, 17 people died due to landslides in Summer Hill area, five in Fogli and two in Krishna Nagar. A holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Shimla, Mandi and Solan districts for two days from Wednesday. Some houses were also damaged due to landslides in Solan district.

During the last 24 hours, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Tamil Nadu received moderate to heavy rainfall. Heavy rains lashed various parts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Scattered rains are reported in Central India and South India. Konkan and Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and surrounding areas received light to moderate rain.

According to private weather agency Skymet, scattered rain is expected over South India, Maharashtra and West Madhya Pradesh today. According to the agency, northeast India, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Konkan and Goa are likely to receive moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 hours.

Karnataka Rain Update:

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, coastal Karnataka is expected to receive moderate rain till Sunday. Thunderstorms will occur in some parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, the weather agency said.

The IMD said that there will be cloudy weather in Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban districts from August 25 to 28, and light rain is likely by this morning.
