Heavy Rainfall alert in Karnataka till October 21

Karnataka, in particular, will continue to experience some intense rainfall activity for the next 4-5 days. The state has already witnessed record-breaking rains this month, and the continued inclement weather may put many parts of the state under a flooding risk. Weather report says heavy Rainfall alert in Karnataka till October 21.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with isolated heavy falls (64.5 mm-115.5 mm), thunderstorms and lightning are all very likely to drench South Interior Karnataka on Monday, Thursday and Friday (October 18, 20 and 21) and Coastal Karnataka on Thursday and Friday (October 20-21).

The following district-level Heavy Rainfall alerts have also been issued across Karnataka for the duration: October 20 & 21 Uttara and Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu. Accounts from the Weather report suggest that rainfall activity is due to multiple meteorological factors. A cyclonic circulation lies over the southeast Arabian Sea across the Kerala coast, with its associated trough extending to the southwest Bay of Bengal.

At the same time, another cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea could give rise to a low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining the east-central Bay of Bengal by October 20, which could develop into a full-fledged cyclone later this or next week. As of Sunday, four more deaths due to rain-related incidents have been reported in Karnataka. Acres of crops continue to remain underwater as heavy rains battered many parts of the old Mysuru region and a few districts in Kalyana Karnataka on Sunday.
