Covid cases surge in India, Reports 41,831 New Cases and 541 Deaths in Last 24 Hours; two states on Alert

New Delhi: India reported 41,831 new Covid-19 cases and 541 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The daily case count has remained over 40,000 for the fifth straight day. Kerala has reported 20,624 cases.

Registering an increase for the fifth consecutive cases, the active cases have climbed to 4,10,952 and comprises 1.30 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.36 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Districts that have been severely affected by the second wave of Coronavirus may not see an equally intense third wave, a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said.

States should conduct district level heterogeneity assessments, that include studying variations in spread and population, to plan health measures based on local data, ICMR experts said. Out of the 541 deaths, 231 fatalities in the last 24 hours were reported from Maharashtra and 80 from Kerala.
