Covid Alert Again In India: Mock drill in hospitals, TAC meeting on Tuesday

In the background of the new type of Covid case being recorded in the neighboring state of Kerala, the health department has already started preparing everything from RTPCR kits to corona test in Karnataka.

The covid virus, which previously caused panic in the world including India, is making noise again. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has instructed the officials to conduct pre-preparedness mock drill in hospitals in the state of Karnataka, alerted to the rise in new covid cases in the neighboring state of Kerala.

Speaking after a meeting with the officials related to Covid at Vikas Soudha, the minister said that the officials have been instructed to conduct a pre-preparedness check in all the hospitals to check the capacity of ICU beds, availability of oxygen and beds including medicines. Although the situation is not alarming, we will take steps to be prepared if such a situation recurs.

The technical advisory committee will give guidance and advice on what kind of measures should be taken, what kind of preparation should be done, what precautionary measures should be taken. We will take action accordingly. Everyone is requested to be alert. But there is no need to worry. Those with symptoms are tested in hospitals. There is no need to check those coming from Kerala and those coming by air.

But we will check in hospitals. If there are more cases, we will take precautionary measures in the coming days. He clarified that the department is ready for everything. Currently we have 30,000 RTPCR kits, That is not enough. About three to four lakh kits are required. We have called a tender for it. It is suggested to send it in a week.

Directions for purchase of test kits are given through Karnataka Medical Supplies Corporation. The minister said that only those who have symptoms of covid will be tested, not everyone. A meeting was held with police officials regarding feticide cases. The police officers informed about the legal difficulties and gave some suggestions.

In this regard, the health department officials will hold a meeting in two to three days and discuss about amending the IPC section or bringing a law to prevent detection and killing of female foetuses. He informed that we are going to discuss about the nullity and complication of Prenatal Gender Determination and Fetal Killing Control Act and bringing amendments.
