Clashes during Ram Navami procession in Murshidabad, section 144 imposed

Murshidabad, : Tension gripped parts of West Bengal after violent clashes broke out between two communities during a Ram Navami procession in Raghunathganj area of Murshidabad. Authorities imposed Section 144 to control the situation following incidents of stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson.
According to officials, clashes erupted at three separate locations during the procession and quickly escalated into widespread violence. Miscreants targeted shops and establishments, damaging property and setting several structures on fire. Incidents of looting were also reported, creating panic among local residents.
Preliminary information suggests that the violence was triggered by a dispute over the display of flags during the procession. The disagreement between members of the two communities soon led to heated arguments, which escalated into stone-pelting and physical clashes.
Sources also indicated that objections raised over loud DJ music played during the procession contributed to tensions. Videos circulating on social media show groups pelting stones at vehicles carrying sound equipment, further intensifying the situation.
Police and security forces rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and launched operations to disperse the crowd. Authorities brought the situation under control after several hours, though the area continues to remain tense.
As a precautionary measure, Section 144 has been imposed across the affected ಪ್ರದೇಶ, prohibiting the assembly of four or more people. Additional forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.
Officials confirmed that at least 15 people sustained injuries in the clashes and have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police have so far arrested 12 individuals in connection with the violence.
Investigations are underway, with authorities examining CCTV footage to identify other ಆರೋಪಿಗಳು involved in the incident. Further arrests are likely as the probe progresses.
A senior police officer said the situation is currently under control but remains sensitive, and strict monitoring is in place to prevent any fresh disturbances.
