Toll Rates Hike: National Highways and expressways toll rates hike from April 1

The coming days are going to be more expensive for the motorists and common people who are already harassed by the tolls at many places on the highways. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to increase the price of tolls on national highways and expressways across the country. According to the reports received on Sunday, the toll rate will be expected to increase Rs 5 to Rs 10. The rate of monthly toll pass will also increase 10 per cent. It is said that it can be increased by 10 percent. There is no information about the increase in the toll rates on the state highways.

Toll rates are revised every year. The new toll rates will come into effect for the next financial year after the approval of the Ministry of Road and Transport. According to sources, cars and light vehicles toll rate expected to increase Rs 5. The possibility of increasing toll rate by heavy vehicles is Rs 10 percent.

According to the current rate, the toll rate on expressways has been fixed at Rs 2.19 per kilometre. In the year 2022-23, the toll rates will be increased by 10 to 15 percent . This year 33,881.22 crores have been collected in tolls. This is per cent for the previous year 21 percent increased. Since 2018, close to one and a half lakh crore of toll tax has been collected.

Toll collection has increased significantly since the introduction of FASTag system. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, an average of Rs 140 crore is being collected daily through FASTag on national highways and state highways.

Monthly Toll Pass

A monthly pass is issued to non – commercial motorists living within 20 km from the toll plaza. It is currently Rs 315 per month. The central government is ready to do more than 10 percent.
