Three BJP workers killed in Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi: Three BJP workers, including the party’s Yuva Morcha general secretary Fida Hussain, were killed on Thursday after terrorists opened fire at them in South Kashmir’s Kulgam area, police said.

Police said the terrorists opened fire at the three BJP workers in YK Pora of Qazigund, killing one person on the spot and critically injuring the other two.

The injured were rushed to a hospital in Qazigund where they were declared brought dead on arrival, police said. They have been identified as Umer Rashid Beigh and Umer Ramzan Hajam.

The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a shadow group of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the killings. In a message in English and Hindi on its social media account, the TRF said “crematoriums will get overbooked”.

Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. An investigation is in progress. The area has been cordoned off by the security forces and search in the area is going on. Terrorists have since June stepped up attacks on BJP workers and leaders, killing eight of them so far.
