Seize 4.98 Kg Heroin At Mumbai Airport Worth Rs 35 Cr; Passenger Coming From Nairobi

Seize 4.98 Kg Heroin: Agents from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai airport at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, detained a traveller arriving from Nairobi and confiscated 4.98 kg of heroin from him. As per the DRI, the contraband is worth Rs. 35 crores on the international market.

More details are still awaited on the case after the DRI detained the said passenger from Nairobi on specific inputs and recovered some contraband from him.In the meantime, city police reported on Thursday that a 24-year-old guy was captured in suburban Goregaon with 270 grammes of heroin valued at Rs 1.09 crore.

An officer reported that on Wednesday night while out on patrol, a group from the Dindoshi Police Station noticed a man acting strangely.About a month ago, at the Nhava Sheva Port in Navi Mumbai, the DRI seized more than 50 kilogrammes of high-quality cocaine worth Rs 500 crore.

Recent illicit drug seizures in several Indian states and a few high-profile drug usage cases involving influential people have brought the subject of illegal drugs back into the public eye.In the past few months, drugs like heroin, cocaine, and other opiates worth millions of dollars have been seized by India’s Anti-Narcotics Bureau and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

In recent years, drug trafficking, especially by West Africans, has become a significant problem for Indian authorities. Four Nigerians were recently detained in New Delhi, and cocaine was found in Mumbai, indicating that a new pattern of drug trafficking has emerged in India. Today, foreign tourists rather than the usual organised crime are bringing drugs into Indian markets.
