District authority declared holiday for schools and colleges from last 4 days. School Students bad news here, school will open on public holidays.

The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Rajendra K V has instructed the schools and colleges to hold classes on public holidays in order to complete the syllabus that is left behind due to the weeklong holiday that is declared to schools and colleges due to incessant rains.

A red alert has been declared in the district continuously from Tuesday, due to the copious amounts of rain that is showering in the district. In addition to drains and ponds overflowing, there are incidents of landslides. As a precaution, holidays have been declared for all the educational institutions right from Anganwadi to post graduate classes.

The Saturday of July 9 will also be a holiday for the same reason. Classes are being lost due to continuous holidays. This will have an impact on the syllabus completion. So the DC has asked the educational institutions to cover up the lost lessons during public holidays. Educational institutions will start functioning from Monday, July 11.

There are instances of declaring one or two days of holidays for school students and colleges in the past due to heavy rains. However, this is the first instance where the holidays have been given continuously for a week due to incessant rains. Rain fury continues in Dakshina Kannada district. Red alert is declared on Friday and Saturday too.
