Rejected twice from Indian army , Chennai man joined Ukraine army to fight Russia

Sainikesh Ravichandran, a 21-year-old Chennai man from Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu has joined the paramilitary forces in Ukraine to fight against Russia. Rejected twice from Indian army, Chennai man joined Ukraine army to fight Russia. Officials visited his residence and inquired his parents about it.

They discovered that Chennai man Sainikesh Ravichandran had applied to join the Indian Army but was rejected. In 2018, Sainikesh went to Ukraine to study at the National Aerospace University in Kharkiv. Chennai man was to complete the course by July 2022. In the midst of the ongoing war in Ukraine, his family had lost communication with Sainikesh.

After seeking the embassy’s help, they were able to contact Sainikesh. Chennai man informed his family that he had joined the Ukraine army paramilitary forces to fight against Russia. Citizens of other countries like the U.S., U.K., Sweden, Lithuania, and Mexico are also reportedly serving in Ukraine’s volunteer military force.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on March 1 allowing temporary visa-free entry for foreigners, except Russians, who wish to join the country’s International Legion of Defence of Ukraine. Interested foreign nationals are required to contact the embassy of Ukraine in their countries, present documents, and appear for an interview before they can proceed to join the fight.

According to Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, around 20,000 foreign volunteers have travelled to the country so far to join the fight. The conflict in Ukraine began when Russian President Vladimir Putin recognised the independence of separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21, 2022. On February 24, Mr. Putin launched a military operation and invaded Ukraine.
