Permanent Work from Home For 98% Employees In TCS, Infosys, Wipro Till This Date

Bengaluru: A vaccine to combat Covid-19 may be available in India soon but a majority of employees in top IT companies such as TCS, Infosys and Wipro will continue to work from home.

At least till March of 2021, according to top officials at these companies.  India’s top IT majors- TCS, Infosys, Wipro together had over 8.78 lakh employees on their rolls for the quarter ended September.

A 98% average would mean 8.61 lakh employees are working from home. “Nearly 99% of our employees in India are currently working from home. While we don’t anticipate any major change to the work from home numbers during next quarter Jan – Mar, we will review the possibility of limited office attendance post-April depending on the pandemic situation and employee safety.

International travel to major work locations is open through travel bubbles notified by various governments. We have employees travelling, but on a very limited scale, and only for essential work requirements or for re-joining their families,” said Richard Lobo, Executive Vice President, Head HR, Infosys.

Infosys has also created ‘safe huddle spaces’ to help employees meet and interact. At the same time, 98% of Wipro’s employees continue to work from home and the software major may extend its work from home policy beyond January 2021. India’s largest IT player TCS too has 97% of its employees still working from home.

It had also spelt out a 25*25 policy post the pandemic, where only 25 per cent of its employees will work from offices by 2025. Prime Minister Modi last month announced a series of measures aimed at furthering ‘ease of doing business’ and making India a tech hub.

In line with this, the Government simplified the Other Service Provider or OSP guidelines of the Telecom Department, a move that would reduce the compliance burdens of the IT and BPO industry.
