Electric water heater to be banned from January 1

Regarding water heaters, geysers, the government has issued a new notification stating that single star water heaters will not be legal from January 1, 2023. A notification of the Ministry of Energy mentioned in this regard, it is said that Single Star Electric Water Heater will not be sold from the new year.

The Ministry of Energy, Government of India has released a new notification regarding Electric Water Heaters in which the table describes the validation of the heater with star rating. It has been clarified that single star means electric water heaters with one star rating will not be valid from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025.

According to the Energy Ministry notification, 1 star electric water heaters of 6 litre to 200 litre capacity will not be legal from 1 January 2023. The main reason for this is that single star water heaters consume a lot of electricity. Due to this, it is known that the main motive behind the banning of such water heaters is that it will put a burden on the budget of the common people and this will increase their expenditure.

As per government notification, there is a requirement to upgrade the energy performance level of storage type electric water heaters, which should be less energy consuming. If you are also using a single star electric water heater so that your electricity bill is high then you can think about replacing it as soon as possible.
