Coldwave in India live updates: Cold wave conditions abated in Delhi on Tuesday due to a fresh western disturbance affecting northwest India, even as a dense layer of fog lowered visibility to just 50 metres, affecting road and rail movement. Some flight schedule (Delhi-Shimla, Delhi-Kathmandu, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Jaisalmer, Delhi-Bareilly, Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Srinagar, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Guwahati) are delayed due to fog and cold in the national capital.

A dense layer of fog engulfs Srinagar as the temperature dips to sub-zero here. Bonfire comes to people’s rescue as they wrap themselves in thick woollen clothes to brace for the winter season. Amid a cold wave prevailing in parts of northern India, Safdarjung in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 5.9°C, at 6.10am today.

IMD 26 trains running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said foggy conditions will continue in Chandigarh for the next few days. Due to the dry weather, Punjab is witnessing foggy conditions, while severe cold day conditions are prevailing in many areas of Punjab and Haryana.

The temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Tuesday was a notch below normal but 2.6°C degrees higher than on Monday. The visibility dipped to 50 metres at Palam and Safdarjung due to “very dense” fog and disrupted train and flight operations.

No diversions or cancellations were reported at the Delhi airport even as flights were delayed between 12:30am and 6am. The northern railways said at least 35 trains were delayed by over an hour.

Other weather stations also reported a rise in the temperature by 2-3°C. Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 7.5°C, Lodhi Road 6.4°C, and Ridge 4.3°C.
A cold wave is declared in the region when the minimum temperature is 4.5°C or more below the normal, or when it drops to 4°C or lower.
