Brahmavara: A businessman was killed when a car crashed into a lake in Barkur Chowlikere in Udupi district. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Shetty, a businessman from Wakwadi in Kundapur taluk. Shweta, who was in the car, was seriously injured.
Santosh Shetty, who runs Sri Lakshmi Glass and Plywood Business in Koteshwara, was traveling from Brahmavara to Wakwadi in his car. During this time, car lost control and crashed into a lake at the curve. Immediately the local’s step in to rescue those in the car. Businessman Santosh Shetty, who was driving the car, died on the spot. But Shweta was rescued and admitted to Manipal Hospital.
The cause of the incident is that the car tire exploded. Brahmavar station’s police are investigating the matter.
There is no barrier to the lake!
Historical Chowlikere is ruined. The State Highway passes over Chaulikere Lake and hundreds of vehicles are constantly traveling along the same road. The road connects the Udupi, Mangalore and Shimoga districts. But there is no barrier to the lake.
And the dangerous turn next to the lake invites danger. Drivers should be very cautious at this time. Even the locals had already complained to the Gram Panchayat and the Representatives to this effect.
If barrier is made, accidents probability can be completely cured. At least at this point, representatives need to take action to build a barrier to the lake.
