After cyclone nivar, Sea spews gold beads at Andra’s Kakinada

Andhra Pradesh: Many locals rushed in search of treasure to a beach in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district after the Cyclone Nivar made landfall on Thursday.

On Saturday, many reportedly rushed to the beach in East Godavari to collect gold, which was believed to have washed ashore in the area after the high tide due to Cyclone Nivar. According to local legend, ancient temples got submerged under the sea over time and their ruches washed up at the shore during high tide after the landfall of Cyclone Nivar.

Several fishermen families in the villages under U Kothapalli Mandal of East Godavari district dashed to collect the gold that had been brought ashore. Many have reportedly found the yellow metal, however, no confirmed reports of the discovery have emerged yet.

Despite strong winds, women and children were seen using sieves to look for gold in the shore. The activity started at 6 am in the morning and went on till evening.

The fishermen community believe that each cyclone brings ‘gold’ and other valuables to the shore and that has led to this hunt, post the landfall of Cyclone Nivar.
