Devananda, a 17-year-old girl, reportedly became the youngest organ donor in India after she donated a part of her liver to her ailing father after a legal battle. 17-year-old girl gave her liver to save her father, becomes youngest liver donor in India.

The surgery was conducted at Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva on February 9, led by Dr Ramachandran Narayanamenon, chief of multi-organ transplant services at Rajagiri Hospital. A 17-year-old girl donated a liver to her father, who was suffering from liver problems for many years.

Through this, she has become the youngest organ donor in India. The law does not allow a minor to donate an organ to someone else. Thus, Devananda approached the Kerala High Court. The court granted the petition sought by the student and allowed the liver to be donated.

Later, Devananda changed her diet as per the doctor’s advice to donate her liver. She also worked out in the gym. Thus, the hospital doctors appreciated the effort given by this girl to save her father and performed the surgery free of cost.

Doctors told 48-year-old Pratish, who is suffering from liver cancer, that he has no other option but to undergo a liver transplant surgery. No matter how hard we searched for donors, no one came forward. Finally, the daughter donated the liver to her father.

The transplant surgery was successfully performed at Rajgiri Hospital near Aluva here on February 9. The hospital doctors appreciated the effort given by this girl to save her father and performed the surgery free of cost.
