Bengaluru : A hoax bomb threat sent via email to the Regional Passport Office in Koramangala triggered panic and temporary suspension of services on Monday afternoon. Police later confirmed that no explosives were found on the premises.
According to police sources, the threatening email, reportedly written in Tamil, was sent to the official email ID of the passport office. The message allegedly warned that explosives had been planted inside the building and would detonate shortly. It also referred to the execution of Ajmal Kasab, stating, “We will not spare you for sentencing Ajmal Kasab to death.”
Upon receiving the email, officials immediately alerted the Koramangala police. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) personnel and a dog squad rushed to the spot. As a precautionary measure, staff members and members of the public were evacuated from the building, and daily passport-related services were temporarily halted.
A senior police officer said, “A thorough search of the premises was conducted. No suspicious object or explosive material was found. The threat has been confirmed as a hoax.”
Security personnel carried out an extensive inspection of the entire building before declaring it safe. Following clearance, passport services resumed, though entry was regulated and allowed in a phased manner.
Cybercrime police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible. Officials are examining digital footprints and server details to determine whether the message was sent from within the state or outside.
The incident comes amid a recent spate of hoax bomb threats across Karnataka. On February 16, similar emails were sent to the Dharwad Bench of the High Court and several district courts, which were later declared false after detailed checks.
Authorities have appealed to the public not to panic and assured that stringent action will be taken against those behind such mischief.
