CID probe ordered into sexual harassment allegations against suspended inspector

Bengaluru : In a major development in the sensational case involving allegations of sexual harassment by a police officer, the Karnataka government has ordered a CID probe against Moodubidire Police Inspector Sandesh.

The decision came after victims met Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara along with State Women’s Commission chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary and submitted a detailed complaint.

According to officials, the victims narrated their ordeal and presented supporting evidence during the meeting held at the minister’s residence. Taking serious note of the allegations, the Home Minister directed the Director General and Inspector General of Police to hand over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department for an impartial and thorough investigation.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said the gravity of the accusations warranted a deeper probe to establish the truth. He assured that the investigation would be conducted swiftly and transparently. “Based on the information provided by the victims, it is necessary to ascertain the facts. Hence, instructions have been issued to transfer the case to CID,” he stated.

The accused inspector has already been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty. Officials indicated that the CID probe would also examine whether others were involved in the alleged misconduct.

Nagalakshmi Chowdhary said the victims had earlier approached the Women’s Commission, detailing the harassment they faced. “Considering the seriousness of the issue, we felt it was important to bring it directly to the Home Minister’s attention. Our only aim is to ensure justice for the victims,” she said.

She added that the minister patiently heard the victims and immediately acted upon the complaint by ordering a CID investigation. The evidence submitted by the victims is expected to play a key role in the probe.

The government has assured protection to the complainants and emphasized its commitment to maintaining public trust in the police system. With the case now under CID, further developments are expected as investigators begin a detailed inquiry.
