A suspected abduction attempt in Bengaluru took a dramatic turn after a car allegedly used by the accused crashed into numerous vehicles while trying to escape from the area.
The incident was reported in Agrahara Dasarahalli after a group of men allegedly entered the home of a 21 year old woman and attempted to take her away by force. The woman, identified as Pooja, had reportedly married a man she loved around nine months ago.
According to the information available in the case, Pooja is originally from Rajasthan. She had married Om Prakash and the couple later moved to Bengaluru, where they were living in a rented house in Agrahara Dasarahalli.
The marriage was reportedly not accepted by her family. Police are now investigating allegations that people connected to her family had arranged for the woman to be brought back from Bengaluru.
The situation escalated when the suspects allegedly took Pooja out of the house and attempted to leave in a car. Her cries reportedly alerted people nearby, prompting local residents to intervene.
Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly accelerated away and drove through the streets in an attempt to escape. The car reportedly collided with a large number of vehicles during the pursuit.
The vehicle is alleged to have struck more than 35 vehicles, including a police vehicle and a car belonging to a judge. More than 100 motorcycles were also reportedly damaged during the incident.
The crash caused injuries to several people on the road. Six people, including two children, were seriously injured in the incident.
The injured have been identified as Prithviraj, 12, Yashika, 9, Amul, 25, Mani, 64, Santosh, 33, and Jayalakshmi, 57. Jayalakshmi was reportedly admitted to hospital in serious condition and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
The incident did not end with the car simply disappearing from the area. Local residents followed the vehicle and managed to stop it near Hosahalli.
After the car was intercepted, residents reportedly rescued Pooja and handed the suspects over to the police. The damaged vehicle was also surrounded by an angry crowd, with its windows reportedly broken during the confrontation.
Police have detained three men from Rajasthan in connection with the case. They have been identified as Rakesh, 31, Karan, 25, and Ayan, 18.
Investigators are also searching for another person believed to be involved in the incident. The driver of the car, identified as Saddam, reportedly fled from the scene and remains at large, according to police.
The alleged involvement of Poojas family is now one of the key aspects being examined by investigators. Police are looking into the claim that members of the family, who opposed her marriage, had allegedly paid others to bring her back from Bengaluru.
The Magadi Road police are investigating the case and are questioning the detained suspects to establish what happened before the group reached Poojas residence and who arranged the journey.
The large number of vehicles reportedly involved in the crash has added another serious dimension to the case. What began as an alleged attempt to take one woman away from her home resulted in a chain of collisions and injuries to people who were travelling through the area.
The condition of the injured people is also being monitored as the investigation continues. Authorities will need to establish the exact sequence of events, including how the car was driven during the escape and the circumstances surrounding each collision.
