Kuwait Building Fire: Several Indians were among 43 killed after a fire broke out in a building housing workers in Kuwait’s Mangaf city. The incident happened at 6 am local time (9 am IST). Kuwaiti officials said over 40 people have been hospitalised.

Officials said the fire broke out in the kitchen of the six-storey building, which housed around 160 people, who were reportedly workers of the same company. Eyewitnesses said that some people died by jumping from the fifth floor of the building to escape the fire.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the fire, saying, “The fire tragedy in Kuwait City is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. “The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation and working with the authorities there to help the victims,” he said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the Indian ambassador has gone to the scene of the incident. “Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. More than 40 deaths and more than 50 people are reported to be hospitalized. Our ambassador has gone to the camp. We are waiting for more information,” said Mr S Jaishankar.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has released a helpline number and said that some Indian workers were involved in the fire incident and the embassy will provide all possible assistance. The emergency helpline number is +965-65505246.
