Big shock for Kantara team: Kerala court order to Banning of Varaha Rupam song

Kerala district court grants interim injunction against use of Varaha Rupam song. The District Court of Kerala gave a shock to the movie Kantara and gave an interim order that the Varaha Roopam song cannot be used in theaters, digital or OTT platforms. The court granted an interim injunction because the court felt that the Varaha Rupam song appeared to be in violation of the Copyright Act. The district court judge KE Sahil, who heard the case, said that the name of Matrabhoomi Printing and Publication Company, which has the original rights of Thaikkuddam Bridge and the song, should be mentioned or the credit should be given to them, the director of Kantara Cinema, Ajanish Loknath, himself admitted that he was inspired by the Navarasam song.

Last week, Kolikkode court judge S Suraj had directed the police to seize all documents related to the Varaha Rupam song under the Copyright Act. Also asked to collect digital rights, notes used to compose the song. He also directed to submit reports on the probe by May 4. On February 8, the Kerala High Court also ruled that the Varaha Rupam song was a plagiarism of the Navarasam song.

But the team had filed a lawsuit saying that this is a copy of the song from Navarasam album made by Thaikkuddam Bridge team. At that time a restraining order was issued for the use of the song. In the hearing held after that, Kantara movie was allowed to use the song, but Thaikkuddam Bridge and Matrabhumi Printing and Publication Company, which holds the rights to the song, have succeeded in bringing an interim stop.

Ajaneesh Loknath composed a new song and aired it on OTTs when the use of Varaha Rupam song was banned. But the audience did not like it. After that, after the injunction was lifted, the original song and music was used again. Now the restraining order has come again.

Kantara movie released in the month of September 2022 and became a big hit. The movie is also directed and acted by Rishab Shetty. Saptami Gowda is the heroine in this movie produced by Hombale in budget of 16 crores, this movie collected around 500 crores. Now the second part of the movie is coming and Rishab Shetty is involved in creating the story of the movie.
