In the wake of the High Court’s order to discuss the change in school timings to solve the problem of traffic congestion, the Education Department has called a meeting of the leaders of the Union of Private School Management Boards to decide.

Schools start around 9 am in most schools across the state. There is a thought to make the school time half an hour earlier. However, it is said that this may be inconvenient. Children have to wake up early in the morning and get less opportunity for physical activity.

Lack of sleep can cause health problems. Leaving school in the evening is delayed. Traffic jams can occur as employees leave companies during school hours. The association of private schools has expressed its opposition as it will be inconvenient if the school timings are changed.

The High Court has advised the government to change the working hours of schools and industries to avoid traffic congestion in Bengaluru. The court instructed to call a meeting and hold a discussion with representatives of schools, industries, commercial organizations and companies, which are the major causes of traffic congestion.

In this regard, the Education Department has taken action. It has been said that a decision will be taken after discussing whether to change the timings only in Bangalore or to change the timings of schools across the state.
