SSLC PUC Board merged: Two exams under one board.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has given green signal to the merger of the Karnataka Higher Education Examination Board and the Department of Pre-university Education. The Karnataka Board of Secondary Education Bill-2022, which provides for the merger of the Karnataka Board of Secondary Education and the Karnataka PUC board Department of Pre-university Education, was approved in the Assembly.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education BC Nagesh explained the objectives of the bill and got approval. Under the New Education Policy (NEP) the two examination boards were merged and renamed as Karnataka School Examination Evaluation Board.

From 2022-23, SSLC and PU exams will be held under one board. An IAS rank officer is appointed as the Chairman of the Board. There will be one Director and Secretary each not below the rank of Joint Director from the Public Education Department and the PU Department.

This bill has been brought in pursuance of the new education policy. PUC directors have to focus on examination and also look at administration and academic activities. This makes it difficult to provide quality education. Thus SSLC Examination Board and Department Of Pre-University Education were merged to form Karnataka School Examination and Evaluation Board.
