Schools, colleges in NCR to remain closed till further orders

New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) late Tuesday night directed that schools, colleges and educational institutions in the National Capital Region will remain closed until further orders, allowing only online mode of education.

Institutions, which were just beginning to open up after remaining closed through the Covid-19 pandemic, will have to revert to the online mode of teaching. On Tuesday night, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) issued a series of directions to the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to deal with the air pollution crisis in Delhi and neighbouring areas.

This comes after an emergency meeting on the pollution crisis in Delhi-NCR was held on Tuesday. The measures are to be implemented with immediate effect. The state governments have to file compliance reports regarding the same on November 22.

Apart from the closure of education institutions, the CAQM has directed that at least 50 per cent of the staff in government offices in Delhi-NCR be allowed to work from home till November 21. In private establishments, the same is to be encouraged in order to cut down on vehicular pollution.
