The academic council of the Mangalore University has permitted the students to pursue two courses at the same time from the next academic year. Members of the academic council of the Mangalore University which met under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Prof P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya provided this information.

It may be recalled, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had approved simultaneous dual degree courses for college students in India, allowing them to complete courses either at the same university or from different universities at the same time. This initiative of the University is in line with UGC guidelines as well as National Education Policy-2020.

The UGC has now directed institutions offering higher education courses to offer formal and informal learning to students. The guidelines have been approved by Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P S Yadapadithaya. He chaired the meeting which was conducted to have a discussion on pursuing two academic programmes simultaneously.

On Tuesday, the VC said a student will be able to pursue two UG, two diploma and two PG programmes, or one PG programme and one UG programme, without violating eligibility conditions for admission to these programmes, with an online or open and distance learning course, simultaneously. It has been done with an aim of multidisciplinary and holistic education.

 It will offer students a range of disciplines, including professional technical and vocational subjects. On the occasion of Dusshera, the University will be closed from September 29 to October 3, 2022. It will reopen on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. This has been announced in a notice which is uploaded on the official website.
