Karnataka: Two days holiday declared in Dakshina Kannada. Top officials in the 4 districts of Karnataka namely Udupi, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada have declared holiday for Anganwadi schools and colleges amid the ‘red alert’ issued by the weather department.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alert for Udupi and Dakshina Kannada till July 9. District administration announced holiday for all schools and colleges on July 8 and July 9. Rain fury continued in the coastal part of Karnataka on Thursday July 7. A red alert was declared on July 7. The same is now extended to July 8 and 9. In the next 48 hours, heavy amounts of rainfall is going to shower in all coastal districts as per the weather forecast announced by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Red alert is declared in three districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. More than 204 mm of rain is expected to fall during this period. Orange alert is declared on July 10 and 11. Violent waves of great heights are expected to arise in sea during this time as per the forecast given by IMD. Fishermen and tourists are warned not to venture into the sea.

A 60-member team of National disaster management authority and 67-member team of state disaster management squad are ready to handle natural calamities that may arise out of the heavy rains during this period. In this regard, the Collector has issued an order against the backdrop of heavy rains in Chikkamagaluru District, as per the opinion of the Deputy Director of Public Education Department, Balur Hobli, Kalasa Taluk and Sringeri of Mudigere Taluk to educational institutions (primary anInstitute of Higher Education) informed that the holiday has been announced on 05-07-2022 and 06-07-2022.

The Education Department has submitted a proposal that it is necessary to declare a holiday from 06-07-2022 to 09-07-2022 for the benefit of the students in the interest of the students as the rains are still falling continuously. In this background, a holiday has been declared for the schools of Chikkamagaluru Taluk except Amble and Lakka Hobli from 06-07-2022 to 09-07-2022.
