Karnataka schools reopening: attendance not compulsory, Consent letters mandatory said BC Nagesh

Bengaluru: All possible measures have been taken to ensure safety of students returning to schools and colleges from Monday, BC Nagesh, primary and secondary education minister, revealed on Sunday. Speaking to reporters after visiting Siddhartha Rural High School and a private school in Tumakuru district, the minister said students who attend on-campus classes must compulsorily bring consent letters from their parents.

However, the minister said attendance at on-campus classes is not compulsory for students and that online classes will continue. Students who do not want to attend physical classes must attend online classes. Schools must strictly follow protocol drawn up by the government and ensure students and teachers always wear a mask while on campus.

Social distancing must also be followed in classrooms. Schools will reopen for classes 9 to 12 from Monday in districts that have a test positivity rate of 2% or less. The TRP mandate means schools, for now, cannot reopen in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Udupi.
