Karnataka Bandh on September 29: 2 days school, College holiday

Due to Cauvery water dispute in Karnataka pro Kannada organization call for Bengaluru bandh September (26) and Karnataka Bandh On September (29).

In the wake of the Cauvery river water problem, Various pro-Kannada organizations have decided to observe a state-wide bandh on 29th. On 25th, representatives of various organizations met in Bengaluru under the leadership of Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj took Bandh decision.

Due to Bengaluru bandh on 26th, the office-bearers of various organizations who participated in the meeting agreed to the proposal to observe Karnataka Bandh on 29th and the suggestion that there should be a gap of 2 days between one bandh to another bandh. In regards schools and colleges may get 2 days holidays on Bandh day.

After this, Vatal Nagaraj said that, Officially announced that it is intended to hold Karnataka bandh on 29th. All organizations and common people were requested to show support for this. In the background of the escalation of the Cauvery dispute, various pro-farmer organizations and pro-Kannada organizations held a meeting on Saturday (September 23).

On 26th (Tuesday), Bangalore was called for bandh. During the Cauvery water protest held by the officials of these organizations at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on 23rd, if Cauvery water decreases in KRS Dam, it will adversely affect the drinking water facility of Bangaloreans.

Demands were heard during the protest that Bengaluru should also be shut down as water is being released from Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu and it is causing problems to Bengaluru residents as well. During the discussion held considering these demands, It was decided to bandh Bangalore on 26th Tuesday.

However, when this decision was communicated to the pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, and when he tried to get the support of some pro-Kannada organizations under his leadership, Vatal Nagaraj did not agree to the Bengaluru bandh.

Vatal Nagaraj had suggested that instead of Bengaluru bandh, we should bandh the entire Karnataka. However, President of Sugarcane Growers’ Association Kuruburu Shanthakumar insisted that if the Karnataka bandh is to be held on another day, then the Bengaluru bandh should be separate.
