Karnataka 2nd PUC syllabus change, big announcement from BC Nagesh

Karnataka 2nd PUC syllabus: In its bid to douse the textbook controversy, Karnataka 2nd PUC syllabus change, big announcement from BC Nagesh. The Karnataka government has decided to drop the process of revision of Karnataka 2nd PUC syllabus history textbook midway and not to seek a report from the Rohith Chakrathirtha committee formed for the purpose.

Karnataka Primary and secondary education minister BC Nagesh told reporters, “Since the Rohith Chakrathirtha committee set up to revise school textbooks stands dissolved, we are not seeking a report from him. Moreover, the proposal was to revise only one PU chapter.

Hence, we felt there was no need for a committee.” Amid the controversy over school textbooks, the government in March asked the Chakrathirtha committee to revise 2nd PUC textbook chapter 4.2, ‘Emerging New Religions’. The minister had then said that since the committee had “successfully completed the revision of school textbooks, we have entrusted him with the new responsibility”.

After objections were raised by Lingayat and Dalit community leaders over how lessons on Basaveshwara and Dr. Ambedkar were edited, allegedly to suppress their critique on caste hierarchy, the Chief Minister had last week announced that the lesson on Basaveshwara would be re-edited.

Speaking on the lesson on Dr. Ambedkar, Mr. Nagesh said, “In the revised textbooks, the adjective “Samvidhana Shilpi” (architect of the Constitition) to describe Dr. Ambedkar had been left out, which will be reinstated.”

When asked over the objections raised about “suppression” of Dr. Ambedkar’s critique of caste hierarchy, Mr. Nagesh said the government had asked three teachers to look into the lessons on Dr. Ambedkar. Based on their report, the government would re-edit them. “We have an open mind about re-editing any parts of the lesson that are objectionable,” he said.
