Government ban political rallies and programs in schools

Government of Tripura (Tripura Government) prohibited any kind of political rallies in the campus during the hours fixed for the school (Political Rallies) and has issued a strict order banning the programs. State Education Department (Tripura Education Department) has issued this order after reports received against some school principals.

The department had received information that political rallies and programs were being organized in the campus during school hours, the permission of which is the principal of the school. The department said that for any such program, first of all NOC will have to be obtained from the education department.

Without this, no political events will be held during the school hours. Chandni Chandran, director of the School Education Department, wrote in the order, ‘No political party shall use any resources of the school including the playground for conducting political programs and rallies etc.

No Objection Certificate will have to be obtained from the Education Department (Director of Secondary / Elementary Education or the concerned District Education Officer) for organizing such programs. The order further stated, ‘Some principals/TICs have violated the rules.

Despite the organizer not having a ‘no objection certificate’, he was allowed to hold political meetings on the campus during school hours. It has been said in the order that due to the lockdown imposed due to Corona epidemic, the education of children has been badly affected.

Therefore, the education of children during school hours should be given top priority. The Education Department said, ‘Schools have reopened after a long gap due to the Covid epidemic. In such a situation, it is completely wrong that the headmaster is allowing political activities in the campus. This is creating a hindrance in the education of the children.
