DK Shivakumar given good news for LKG to PUC students
DK Shivakumar: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced that the state government will provide free bus services to students studying from LKG (Lower Kindergarten) to PUC (Pre-University Course) in Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) across the state.

This initiative is a significant step aimed at:
Strengthening public education: By making government schools more attractive and accessible.
Aiding economically disadvantaged students: Reducing the financial burden of transportation costs for families.
Improving attendance and academic performance: Ensuring students, especially those from remote and underprivileged areas, can consistently attend school.
The announcement was made by Shivakumar on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. While the initiative has been officially announced, the government is expected to release further operational details and implementation timelines in the coming weeks.
It’s important to note that some reports indicate that while the Deputy CM has announced this, the Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, has stated it is currently a proposal and requires cabinet approval and agreement from concerned departments regarding financial implications. However, other news sources confirm the government’s decision.

This scheme is distinct from existing concessions like the ‘Shakti’ scheme (free bus travel for women) and existing subsidized or free bus passes for certain student categories (e.g., SC/ST students, or free travel for SSLC students during exams). This new announcement specifically targets all students from LKG to PUC in Karnataka Public Schools.
