CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has announced that the use of AI-powered ChatGPT during the ongoing board exams is strictly prohibited and if students are caught using the platform, they will have to bear the consequences.

The viral chatbot lets students and other users get answers to complex queries in seconds. The AI-powered ChatGPT is also capable of solving math problems. The CBSE class 10 12 Exam began earlier today. The board already prohibits the use of electronic gadgets inside the exam hall.

However, it is now specifically prohibiting the use of ChatGPT inside board exam halls. “The use of Artificial Intelligence-based ChatGPT has been prohibited in the upcoming CBSE class 10 12 Exam by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE),” officials said on Tuesday. Mobile, ChatGPT and other electronic items will not be allowed in the examination hall,” according to instructions issued by the board ahead of the papers.

The central education board warns students against the use of unfair means to pass exams. The admission card for the exams also has a cautionary instruction that reads, “You should not indulge in any unfair practice. If found, you will be booked under Unfair Means (UFM) Activity and action will be taken as per the rules of the board.”

“Do not believe in fake videos and messages uploaded on social media. Do not spread rumours too. You could be booked under unfair means rules,” it added. This is not the first time ChatGPT has concerned education authorities. There have been numerous cases where ChatGPT cleared multiple CBSE class 10 12 Exam with flying marks. Some reports claim that students are already using ChatGPT to finish their homework.

AI-powered tools, such as Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri, have been around for a while, but ChatGPT is the most impressive tool so far. The chatbot by AI startup firm OpenAI lets users type queries in English and get conversational answers in seconds.

The company says that its chatbot has been fed a pool of data scattered over the internet. With ML (machine learning) capabilities, ChatGPT continues to learn new features every day. Its replies are also somewhat distinct and not always repetitive.
