Maruti Suzuki Fronx expected to bring more volumes than Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The prices of the Fronx will be announced towards the end of this month. The Jimny prices are expected to be revealed in May. Maruti Suzuki India is gearing up to launch two new sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in the market, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, the country’s largest carmaker is expecting the former to bring more volumes than the latter. Maruti Suzuki Fronx expected to bring more volumes than Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Both SUVs were unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023. The prices of the Fronx will be announced towards the end of this month. The Jimny prices are expected to be revealed in May. We expect the Maruti Suzuki Fronx price in India to be between Rs 6.75 lakh and Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is expected to sit in the price bracket of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

Talking to India Today, Maruti’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava, said that the company is hoping to get very good numbers for the Fronx.

“The Jimny is more of a niche, lifestyle kind of a product. It is a four-wheel-drive (4WD) and obviously priced accordingly. And therefore, I feel that the segment may not, at this point in time, be large. The Mahindra Thar does about 2,500-3,000 units per month. In comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza does 15,000 units and the Tata Punch does 10,000 units. That segment is still evolving and we expect it to become larger,” he pointed.

We have volume drivers in the Fronx and the Brezza, Srivastava said, adding that we also have good volumes coming from the Grand Vitara. “Having three volume drivers (Fronx, Jimny and Brezza) within the compact SUV segment may not be practical. More practical probably we thought was to re-emphasise the SUV codes, which will be a very big positive for the overall umbrella brand, the Maruti Suzuki SUV brand. Maruti SUV probably will have a very good positive rub-off because you have the Jimny, which is like a pure SUV, and that should give us a good push,” he observed.

The Fronx has two engine choices, K10C 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet petrol (100.06PS/147.6Nm) and K12N 1.2-litre Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol (89.73PS/113Nm). The 1.0-litre engine can be paired either with a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT, while the 1.2-litre engine has 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT options.

The Jimny has K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine (103PS/134Nm), which can be had with either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT. It gets Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO 4WD technology with low-range transfer gear (4L mode) as standard.
