Starting October 1, the prices of several household and electronic products are expected to increase significantly. According to the latest market reports, the prices of televisions, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and other major consumer electronics are likely to rise by 5% to 8%.
This will be the third round of price hikes introduced by electronics manufacturers this year, adding to the financial burden on consumers during one of India’s busiest shopping seasons. Industry experts attribute the price increase to a combination of global supply chain challenges, rising raw material costs, and geopolitical tensions.
Prices of essential manufacturing materials such as copper, aluminium, and steel have continued to climb in international markets. In addition, diplomatic tensions in West Asia have pushed up global freight and shipping costs, while fluctuations in currency exchange rates have made imported electronic components more expensive.
As a result, manufacturers have decided to pass these higher production costs on to consumers. The impact is expected to be most significant in the television segment. Industry estimates suggest that the prices of small-screen TVs could increase by as much as 20%, while large-screen televisions may become around 10% more expensive.
Leading brands such as Blue Star, Godrej, Daikin, and Haier have already indicated that price revisions are on the way. However, there is a small relief for consumers. Since many retailers stocked up on inventory during August and September at the existing prices in preparation for the festive season, customers may still be able to purchase some products at the old rates during the initial days of October.
Once these inventories are exhausted and fresh stock reaches the market, shoppers can expect to pay higher prices for most electronic appliances.
