Motorola is preparing to add another smartphone to its Signature lineup, with the company confirming that the new Motorola Signature 27 will be unveiled on September 22. Ahead of the launch, a teaser video has offered an early look at the phone, including its design, colour options and camera setup.
The camera appears to be one of the biggest talking points of the upcoming smartphone. Motorola has shown two rear cameras in the teaser, with one of them carrying a 200 megapixel marking. The company has not yet provided the complete camera specifications, so the exact sensor and its role will be confirmed at the launch.
Dolby Vision support has also been highlighted in the teaser. This suggests that Motorola is paying attention to the phones display and entertainment capabilities, although the company has not yet revealed the complete display specifications.
The design shown in the promotional material gives the Motorola Signature 27 a premium appearance. The rear panel appears to have a linen inspired finish, while the sides seem to feature curved edges. The familiar Motorola logo is placed on the rear panel below the camera section.
Motorola has shown the smartphone in two colour options so far. One version has an olive green shade, while another appears in a light purple finish. These colours give the upcoming phone a different visual identity compared with many conventional flagship smartphones.
The teaser also suggests that Motorola is continuing with a relatively clean rear design. Instead of using a very large camera arrangement, the company has shown two rear camera units positioned within a simple camera area. More details about the sensors and additional imaging features are expected to arrive with the official launch.
Performance could also receive an upgrade. Reports surrounding the phone suggest that Motorola may use an octa core chipset, although the exact processor has not been officially confirmed. The company is expected to reveal the chipset and other internal specifications during the launch event.
The new model comes after the Motorola Signature, which was introduced by the company earlier this year. That smartphone featured a 6.8 inch OLED display with support for a 165Hz refresh rate and was powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset.
The earlier Motorola Signature also focused strongly on photography, carrying three 50 megapixel rear cameras. The new Signature 27 appears to be taking a different approach by highlighting a much higher resolution main sensor.
This change could make the camera system one of the main upgrades over the previous generation. However, megapixel count alone does not determine overall camera performance. Sensor size, image processing, stabilisation and supporting cameras will also play an important role in how the phone performs in everyday photography.
Motorola has not yet revealed the full specifications of the Signature 27. Details such as display size, resolution, refresh rate, processor name, RAM, storage, battery capacity and charging speed are still awaited.
Pricing and availability information are also expected to be announced during the official event. The company could provide more information about the camera system, display technology and software features at the same time.
For now, the 200 megapixel camera shown in the teaser, Dolby Vision support and the two colour options are among the clearest details available about the phone. The olive green and light purple versions, along with the textured rear finish and curved sides, suggest that Motorola is giving considerable attention to the phones appearance.
With the launch date now confirmed for September 22, the remaining specifications should become clearer soon. The Motorola Signature 27 is expected to build on the earlier Signature model while introducing changes to its camera system and overall design.
