Facebook removes ‘like button’ from all public pages: here is major changes details

Facebook Pages will now only show the number of followers along with a dedicated news feed section for users to join conversations, interact, and engage with others. “We are removing Likes and focusing on Followers to simplify the way people connect with their favorite Pages.

Unlike Likes, Followers of a Page represent the people who can receive updates from Pages, which helps give public figures a stronger indication of their fan base,” said Facebook in a blog post. The new update will be rolled out officially to all the Facebook pages in the coming months.

Facebook was spotted testing a new design for pages last year in July which included removing the ‘like button’ to give a cleaner design for pages. Talking about other Facebook-related news, a Milan-based appeals court recently ordered Facebook to pay 3.83 million euros ($4.70 million) in damages for copying the ‘Nearby’ feature from app ‘Faround’, which allows users to identify shops, restaurants in their surrounding area.

Also, Facebook has made some of its features on Instagram and Facebook Messenger temporarily unavailable for European users. The notification received by users on these apps states that certain features aren’t available to “respect new rules for messaging services in Europe.” The move has been implemented because of the new EU rules known as the ePrivacy directive.
