Corona cases sudden rise in Maharashtra, Mumbai Schools closed for classes 1 to 9 and Class 11 BMC Chief Iqbal Chahal has announced that all schools in Mumbai for classes 1 to 8 would close with immediate effect. Maharashtra Corona cases rise, Schools closed till January 31.

Schools would remain closed till January 31. The notice has been released by the office of BMC, making it clear that the classes and is provided below. Meanwhile, the classes for students of classes 10 and 12 would continue. As for the private schools, many schools are closing. The decision was taken in view of the rising cases.

With the COVID cases crossing 8000, the decision was made by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This order is relevant to all the schools in the BMC area, irrespective of the board.  Earlier this week, many private Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE and ICSE board schools earlier decided to defer reopening by a week. Mumbai Schools, especially the ones mentioned above have taken this decision after taking into account the safety of children.

Even though Maharashtra Government representatives have said that they don’t plan to close schools yet, these educational institutions are taking a call independently as several cases of Omicron also get reported. Schools in the city had asked for parents’ consent before welcoming back students for offline classes.

Even though many schools resumed physical classes from December 15, 2021, there were others that decided to defer it back then as Maharashtra had reported few Omicron cases. The nod to reopen was given by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, BMC but the final call was also taken by schools.
