Kerala heavy rain Triggers Floods, Landslides: 10 Dead, Many Missing

Heavy rain in parts of Kerala has triggered landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts. At least Ten people have been killed and many missing in rain-related incidents. The weather office has predicted heavy to very heavy rain till tomorrow morning.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting today as excessive rainfall battered the coastal state. He said that the situation is serious but the latest weather reports ‘give relief’. “The report shows signs that we are not going into a worse situation,” he said

Landslides have been reported in Kottayam and Idukki districts. Twelve people are reported missing in Kottayam. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts have been put on red alert.

There is an orange alert in seven districts Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. On the state government’s request, the Army, Navy and Air Force have stepped in to help the civil administration handle the situation. Mi-17 and Sarang helicopters are on standby and all bases under Southern Air Command are on high alert.
