Tipu Jayanti celebrated by the government was withdrawn in 2019 itself. Even after the Congress came to power in the state, the order to cancel the ritual was not withdrawn. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil said that there was no discussion about this even in the Cabinet meeting. When the Siddaramaiah-led government came to power for the first time, the Tipu Jayanti celebration was implemented amid criticism and opposition. This was canceled by the BJP during its tenure (in 2019).

Even though the Congress has come back to power, the order to cancel the Tipu Jayanti celebrations in 2019 has not been withdrawn. There was no discussion about this in the cabinet meeting held today. In this context there is no official Tipu Jayanti celebration. HK Patil clarified that there was no discussion about Tipu Jayanti even in the cabinet.

Prohibition imposed in Mandya:

In Srirangapatna of Mandya district, the prohibition order has been enforced today in view of Tipu Jayanti celebrations. People will be arriving from different places including Mysuru to hold Tipu Jayanti program from Tipu Wakf Estate. Thus Srirangapatna Tehsildar Parasurama Sattigeri has ordered to implement the prohibition order as a precautionary measure.

A curfew has been imposed from 6 am to 11 pm today, prohibiting processions, protests, rallies, banners, buntings, loudspeakers, firecrackers, use of DJs, slogans, wearing t-shirts with provocative images.
