Addressing a press conference in Hubli, he said, “We have done as promised by the Congress government in its manifesto before the elections. As per Gandhiji’s dream, the stake is taken to make the country free from hunger. All eligible ration card holders will be given rice, he said. Duplicate ration cards will be disqualified after proper verification.

He said that this process is ongoing and rice is being supplied to 1.08 crore families out of 1.28 crore BPL families in the state. 10kg of rice was promised for free distribution. The central government is giving 5 kg of rice and politically motivated refusal to give additional 5 kg of rice. He said that efforts have been made to get it from states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Rs 170 per month is being given to each BPL family member till the extra rice is available. He said that 15 kg of rice is also being given at a discounted price to APL card holders. Ration shopkeepers will get their commission after giving extra rice. He said that he should continue his work till then. There will be a discussion about caste census. The government is committed to implement the Sadashiva Commission report.
