Water Supply Cut in Bangalore: India’s Silicon Valley and Karnataka’s capital city of Bengaluru face a 24-hour water supply cut tomorrow (February 27). A city with a population of 1.3 crore is struggling to meet its water demand. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) announced the shutdown to carry out essential maintenance works and install unmetered bulk flow of water (UFW) meters. The 24-hour water supply diversion will begin at 6 am on February 27 and continue till 6 am on February 28.

According to a report the city currently has access to around 1,850 million liters per day (MLD), but needs at least 1,680 MLD more to meet its water needs. Bengaluru’s groundwater has declined and at least 1,240 borewells out of 10,995 are at risk of drying up.

On top of that, reverse osmosis (RO) units that provide affordable drinking water (20 liters for Rs 5) have stopped or doubled their price. In the ripple effect, street vendors and small businesses that depend on these units are now facing challenges.
