Mumbai Covid cases surge, issued new Travel guidelines

Omicron and Covid cases rise in Maharashtra Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday issued new travel guidelines. Mandated all international passengers from at-risk and high-risk countries and UAE arriving at Mumbai International Airport to undergo rapid RT-PCR or other COVID tests.

In travel guidelines “If tested negative, the passengers will be allowed to leave and stay under 7-day home quarantine. Those found positive to undergo institutional quarantine. The rest of the passengers who are fully vaccinated need not go for the test unless asked to do so by authorities,” said Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, BMC.

Mumbai Schools closed for classes 1 to 9 and Class 11 BMC Chief Iqbal Chahal has announced that all schools in Mumbai for classes 1 to 8 would close with immediate effect. Maharashtra Corona cases rise, Schools closed till January 31.

Schools would remain closed till January 31. The notice has been released by the office of BMC, making it clear that the classes and is provided below. Meanwhile, the classes for students of classes 10 and 12 would continue. As for the private schools, many schools are closing. The decision was taken in view of the rising cases.

With the COVID cases crossing 8000, the decision was made by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This order is relevant to all the schools in the BMC area, irrespective of the board.  Earlier this week, many private Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE and ICSE board schools earlier decided to defer reopening by a week.

Mumbai Schools, especially the ones mentioned above have taken this decision after taking into account the safety of children. Maharashtra reported 18,466 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, the state health department informed on Tuesday. The cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have gone up to 653. There are 66,308 active cases in the state.

Out of the 18,466 new COVID recorded in Maharashtra, Mumbai reported 10,860 fresh COVID cases on Tuesday. The state has witnessed 20 COVID-related deaths, while 4,558 patients have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
