Shreyas Iyer new captain for RCB in IPL 2022

RCB are in search of a new captain after Virat Kohli stepped down decided to step down after last season. The franchise has retained Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the auction. Shreyas Iyer has been in great demand for IPL 2022. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengalore fighting for take him. According to the reports Shreyas Iyer is likely to join RCB for IPL 2022 and he will play alongside with team India captain Virat Kohli. Both have known to have good relations since last many years as they have played together for the Team India. Shreyas Iyer impressed everyone with his captaincy in the IPL. Under the captaincy of Iyer, the team of Delhi Capitals reached the final of IPL 2020.

However, the team was defeated by Mumbai in the title match. He was injured before IPL 2021. After this, Delhi gave the command of the team to Rishabh Pant. For IPL 2022 also, the team decided to make Pant the captain. In such a situation, Iyer has separated from the Delhi team. Now an attempt is being made to pick Shreyas Iyer for RCB.

Shreyas Iyer had joined Delhi (then Delhi Daredevils) back in 2015. He was roped in for INR 2.6 crores from the auction pool and was retained ahead of the 2018 season IPL auction and was announced the captain a few days later. He led the team to playoffs in 2019, the franchise’s first appearance in the knockouts in seven years before leading them to the final in 2020 where they lost to Mumbai Indians in the final.

In 86 innings he batted for the franchise, Iyer scored 1916 runs at 31.7 with 16 half-centuries. The final list of cricketers who will go under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction is finally out with a total of 590 players up for grabs.

Former India former opener Aakash Chopra said that RCB may spend 20 crores for this player in IPL 2022. Aakash Chopra said RCB has revealed that someone has informed him that Royal Challengers Bangalore have kept INR 20 crore for Shreyas Iyer pick him as captain in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Shreyas Iyer has led Delhi Capitals in the past where he took them to their maiden IPL final in 2020. Last season he suffered an injury ahead of the first leg was ruled out of the tournament initially, however, he recovered in the second leg and returned to the squad.
