Concerns arose over Virat Kohli’s security, prompting RCB to abandon the practice session. RCB was supposed to practice at the Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s eliminator, but could not go ahead with the schedule. According to Anandbazar Press, the franchise did not even hold a press conference on the eve of the eliminator match against the Royals due to security threats, prompting many to be confused about the unusual development.
According to the report, the Gujarat Police hinted that Virat’s security was the primary reason behind cancelling the practice session and press conference. Police have reportedly arrested 4 people from Ahmedabad on suspicion of terror activities. After the police informed IPL franchises Bangalore and Rajasthan, one acted on the call and cancelled all commitments for the day while the other went ahead with the schedule.

Virat Kohli is a national treasure, and his security is our top priority,” said police officer Vijay Singh Jwala. “RCB does not want to take the risk. He told us that there will be no practice period. Rajasthan Royals were informed about the development, but they had no trouble continuing with their practice. Police have beefed up security outside RCB’s team hotel. Reportedly, even the IPL accredited members were not allowed to enter the team hotel.

A ‘green corridor’ is said to have been created to reach the Rajasthan Royals training ground. The likes of R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ryan Parag have reportedly opted to stay at the hotel and miss the practice session. Captain Sanju Samson reached the field late. Strict security measures are expected to be in place for the IPL 2024 eliminator between RCB and RR on Wednesday.
