IPL 2024 Eliminator: Faf du Plessis finally explains the reason for RCB’s defeat

After the loss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis spoke about some of the reasons behind his team's defeat in the eliminator.

IPL 2024 Eliminator: After staging a remarkable comeback in the league stage of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) missed out on reaching the IPL final after losing the eliminator against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. After the loss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis spoke about some of the reasons behind his team’s defeat in the eliminator.

Speaking to broadcasters after the match, Du Plessis said, “Batting first is tough because the ball sticks to the surface. You are thinking 190 but when you lose a couple of wickets the problem starts. Faf du Plessis said the 180-par score on the “very slow” Narendra Modi Stadium pitch, the presence of dew in the second innings and the effect player’s rule meant RCB ended up at least 20 runs behind.

He said, “With the dew coming in, we thought we were short with the bat. Thought we would be 20 runs shy of a good score. Credit to the boys – they battled really well. That’s all you can ask for . . .”If you look to judge the pitch and the conditions naturally, you’d say it was a 180 pitch because it was leading and quite slow,”

“But what we’ve found this season is obviously with longer batting line-ups because of the extra batter and the super sub [impact player], your par scores aren’t really what they’re used to, especially if there’s dew. So we knew we needed a bit more in terms of scoring to challenge them,” the RCB skipper added.

After a shaky start, RCB scored 172/8 in the allotted 20 overs thanks to Mahipal Lomror’s quick knock and Swapnil Singh’s superb play. In reply, RR stumbled a bit in the middle overs but eventually managed to get back into the game through the partnership of Ryan Parag and Shimran Hetmyer.
