IPL 2022 edition kickstarts very soon, many cricket fanatics await the mega auction. A time period where every team tries to obtain the best captain. Report says three Karnataka player KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey will be a captain for IPL 2022.

Former Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul has been in ominous form with the bat, especially in the T20 format. Now, with Rahul parting ways with Punjab Kings, as per a report, new franchise Lucknow is set to lap him up. Reports claim he has been offered Rs 20 Cr by Lucknow.

If that happens, he would become the most expensive player in the history of the league. As per reports, KL Rahul is reportedly in negotiations with the Lucknow franchise and unlikely to go into the auction pool. If this is indeed true, Karnataka opener Rahul likely to become the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.

Even otherwise, Rahul at Rs 17 Cr (2018-2021) is still the most expensive player. If Lucknow ropes him in, then he could very well be made the captain of the side. Thus far, Rahul has played 94 matches in IPL and has amassed 3273 runs at an average of over 41. He is one of the most consistent batters in the league.

In the 2021 IPL, Rahul smashed 626 runs in 13 matches and was the third-highest run-getter in IPL 2021, but unfortunately, failed to inspire the side to a title. Rahul has been the best opener in IPL since 2018 and scored 659, 593, 670, and 626 runs in the past four seasons, respectively. Rahul adds a lot of value to the side he is an opener, a wicketkeeper, and a captain. Lucknow would look to build a team around the India opener.

Mayank Agarwal was one of two players retained by the Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL Auction 2022. The Karnataka player was one of the most successful players for Punjab in IPL 2021 racking up 442 runs this season. He was retained for Rs 12 crores after joining the side in 2018 for just Rs 1 crore.

This comes as a massive hike for the swashbuckling opener. Ahead of the all-important IPL Auction 2022, IPL 2022 Mayank Agarwal must captain for Punjab kings side. Mayank Agarwal has been with the side since 2018. KL Rahul’s departure from the side will put the onus on him to take over the reins of the side.

Adding to this is the synergy he shares with the side’s coaching staff and hence will be integral to the side’s roster that is being rebuilt. Agarwal’s recent Test exploits will just add to his growth as a responsible batter. It makes him the apt choice to lead the side rather than being pushed into the IPL Auction 2022. Like Rahul, Agarwal has proved he can lead with the bat.

His total of 442 runs from 12 games in the IPL in 2021 proved that he can lead the side from the front. Agarwal will look to continue the good run that he’s struck in the Tests. It will help the Punjab management make up their mind on making him the captain for the next IPL season.
