In the 17th edition of the IPL tournament, the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore faced each other. As per the complete schedule, the final match of the on-going season will be held in Chennai on May 26.
The first qualifier and eliminator matches will be held in Ahmedabad on May 21 and 22 respectively. The second qualifier match will be played on May 24 in Chepauk. Waiting for the dates of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Cricket Board of India had only announced the schedule for the first two weeks of the tournament till April 7.
Now that the Election Commission has come out with the official polling dates, the BCCI, after working closely with the local authorities, has finalized the schedule for the rest of the season. After revealing the dates for the initial 21 matches, the BCCI has seamlessly arranged the remaining matches, starting with the 22nd match on Monday, April 8.
The second phase begins with a clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. Speculations about the possible venue of IPL 2024 have been partially put to rest in the UAE by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who has confirmed that the entire tournament will be held in India.
The decision was taken amid security concerns as the upcoming general elections will be held from April 19 to June 1, with counting of votes scheduled for June 4. The scheduling team at IPL has skilfully crafted a program that avoids overlapping with election dates at various stages, ensuring smooth progress of the tournament by upholding the home and away format.

Dharamshala, known as Punjab Kings’ secondary base, will host two home matches for the franchise against Chennai Super Kings on May 5 (day game) and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 9 (night game). Additionally, Guwahati, the second preferred venue for Rajasthan Royals, will witness two exciting encounters.
On May 15, Rajasthan Royals will take on Punjab Kings, followed by a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 19, marking the conclusion of the league stage. All in all, the schedule promises an action-packed IPL 2024 season that is bound to attract cricket enthusiasts across India.
