Uddhav Thackeray said Congress and other INDIA alliance leaders are talking to NDA partners like JDU chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for being limited to 240 seats, short of a majority of 272.

The National Democratic Alliance is hovering around 290 seats, meaning it will form the next government for a third consecutive term, but India alliance is exploring the possibility of some talks with Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu.

Uddhav Thackeray said that he needs to stake a claim to form the next government at the Center and it looks like the BJP-led NDA has the numerical strength to form the next government. Talking about the future plans of the opposition alliance, Uddhav Thackeray said that the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party will meet on June 5 and take a decision. These developments come as BJP and NDA leaders are trying to reach out to JDU and TDP chiefs.

INDIA will have 235 seats in the 18th Lok Sabha and it remains to be seen whether they are able to break the NDA and get the crucial support that JD(U) and TDP have won in 12 and 16 seats. Even if both the parties agree to join the INDIA alliance, the opposition alliance still needs the support of many smaller parties and independent candidates to think about forming the next government at the Centre.

“We will hold a meeting with our alliance partners…tomorrow. These questions will be raised and answered there… I respect our alliance partners and we will not make any statements without consulting our alliance partners,” senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said when asked about future plans.
