‘Nitin Gadkari right person in wrong party’: Maharashtra Minister

Mumbai: Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is the right man but in the wrong party as his powers are being continuously “curtailed” by the ruling party, said Maharashtra Minister Ashok Chavan on Sunday.

While speaking to media on the completion of seven years of the Modi govt, Ashok Chavan said the Central government has kept all decision-making powers to itself but has been blaming the state governments after the second wave of COVID-19 spiralled out of control. Slamming the Modi govt for its policies, he said, “The price of petrol had reached Rs 100 per lite.

Some 12.21 core people have lost their jobs. The per capita income of Bangladesh is now higher than that of India. The policies of the Centre have devastated the country.” Chavan alleged the Centre had a discriminatory attitude towards Maharashtra on all fronts, including financial aid and GST compensation.

When asked whether he has any favourite minister in the Modi govt, the senior Congress leader heaped praise on Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for maintaining dialogue with other parties despite ideological differences. “Gadkari is the right man in the wrong party. He has a positive approach towards Maharashtra but his powers are being continuously curtailed,” added Ashok Chavan.

Slamming the saffron party over the Maratha quota issue, the Congress leader asked the Central government to come up with a solution after the Supreme Court recently struck down a state law granting reservations in jobs and education to the community.
