PM Modi Warns Against ‘New Challenge’ of Black Fungus, Says ‘Need to Save Our Children’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed frontline workers and officials of Varanasi for containing the spread of virus in the city. He said the speed with which Varanasi increased the number of oxygen and ICU beds in short time was an example in itself.

He also said that black fungus had emerged as a new challenge in country’s fight against Covid-19. “In this battle of ours, another new challenge of Black Fungus has also emerged these days. It is important to pay attention to the necessary precautions to deal with it, and ‘Need to Save Our Children'” PM Modi said.

PM Modi interacted with doctors, paramedical staff and other frontline health workers of Varanasi. He reviewed the working of various Covid hospitals in Varanasi including Pandit Rajan Mishra Covid Hospital, which was recently started through the joint efforts of DRDO and Indian Army. He reviewed the working of non-Covid hospitals in the district.

During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi said vaccination had provided protection to frontline workers, who could serve the people. “In the coming days, we will be extending vaccine protection to everyone,” he added. The Prime Minister on Thursday had interacted with the state and district officials of ten states. During the interaction, the officials briefed the Prime Minister about the improving Covid situation in their respective districts.

They shared their experience of using technology for real-time monitoring of Covid situation. Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi urged everyone to ensure full commitment to fight the pandemic.
